NDP leader Adrian Dix says governments should balance their budgets, but only over what he calls the “business cycle.”
Dix says an NDP government would do away with the Liberals’ balanced budget law.
“What I’d do is be straightforward, which is to try and balance budgets. And so I don’t agree with balanced budget legislation, neither-“
“So it sounds like you’re gonna get rid of it.”
“Yeah. I don’t agree with it, neither does the government. I’m gonna be straightforward. They should be too.”
Dix says the current law is like a Monty Python skit, noting the Liberals have given themselves exemptions over the last several years to allow budget deficits.
