CKNW is learning more about an incident at Port Moody’s Eagle Ridge Hospital over the weekend that saw three hospitalists fired.
The nurses’ union claims they don’t know why the workers were terminated.
Dr. Roy Morton of Fraser Health says the doctors were fired because they refused new patients.
“There has been a contract dispute that’s been evolving over the last number of months, whereby the hospitalists at Eagle Ridge are under the impression that their workload is higher than the workload for hospitalists at other facilities.”
Fraser Health had tabled a new contract – but that offer was rejected.
Morton says one of the three has since been rehired, adding patients were never at risk because other hospital staff stepped in to fill the void.
