Emergency Management Director’s job still open

It’s the middle of Emergency Preparedness Week in the Province, but the City of Vancouver still doesn’t have a permanent replacement for its former Director of Emergency Management.

Kevin Wallinger was let go in mid-March, and the city has confirmed the search for his replacement is on-going.

Daniel Stevens who was the Manager of Emergency Planning, continues to be Acting Director in the meantime.

Nearly two months after the dismissal, the city is still not prepared to offer any kind of explanation for why.

Wallinger had held the position since 2008.

Wallinger’s dismissal came just a couple of months after Director of Planning, Brent Toderian was let go. In Toderian’s case, city hall watchers mused he’d fallen out of favour with local developers, while the city said it was time for change.
