The NDP says it’s time for the Liberal government to release the list of assets it plans to put on the market, but B.C.’s finance minister says that’s not going to happen.
Documents obtained by the Opposition show the initial parameters for surplus properties included everything from the Lotteries Corporation to the Royal B.C. Museum.
Finance Minister Kevin Falcon says those properties are not for sale, but critic Bruce Ralston is not convinced.
“For the minister to say just trust us, for a lot of people, it really isn’t gonna wash.”
But Falcon refuses to release a full “for sale” list.
“You’d get potential buyers (who) can work with each other and say we won’t bid on those ones, but we’ll go bid on some of these other ones, and you actually don’t maximize the return for taxpayers.”
Falcon says individual properties will be made public as they go on the market over the next year.
