Former NHL star Theo Fleury is asking the courts not to show any leniency, as a sentencing hearing gets underway for his former junior coach, and abuser, Graham James.
Fleury can’t face his abuser in court — due to a contractual engagement — so instead, he’s releasing his impact statement to the public. His voice cracking, Fleury is asking the judge not only to think about the law when sentencing James — but also about the scared little boy, who had nowhere to run and nowhere to hide — and the journey to hell they were sent on.
“Only then you should consider punishment…and the punishment should be lifetime removed from society in a prison, where the keys are thrown away never to be found again.”
Fleury says pedophiles like James do not ever change. James served a three-and-a-half year sentence in the 1990’s for abusing three other hockey players.
