Four new schools for overcrowded Surrey

SURREY, B.C. – B.C.’s fastest-growing school district will get four new schools to accommodate expanding enrolment in Surrey and aging buildings in other districts will be upgraded or replaced.

Premier Christy Clark says land has been bought for four future schools in Surrey and that a total of nine new schools will be built in B.C.

Education Minister George Abbott was on Vancouver Island during Monday’s announcement, when students in the Sooke school district learned two new secondary schools will be built there.

Vancouver will get two new elementary schools.

Additions will be built to four schools in B.C., including to an elementary school in Richmond.

The entire $ 353-million project is expected to create about 1,850 jobs.
