Teacher barred from classrooms for 15 years

A Vancouver teacher who admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a student, could one day be allowed to teach again.

Although James Martin McGeough engaged in unprofessional conduct with a female student, B.C.’s Teacher Regulation Branch has ruled he can be re-certified to teach after 15 years.

The married math teacher admits he had an inappropriate relationship with the 17-year old while teaching in Vancouver.

It happened between October 2008 and February 2009.

He gave the girl massages, called her at home and invited her to his house over Christmas while his wife and kids were away.

In deciding the 15-year ban, the panel says it was troubled by his inability to understand how his actions impacted the teenage girl.
