Girl now in ministry care

A 12-year-old Surrey girl, missing for ten days, has been found.

She will now be in government care.

She’s been missing since March 27th, but Jamie-Leah Prohl called police last night, saying she wanted to come home.

Surrey RCMP Corporal Drew Grainger says police picked the girl up in south Vancouver, and both her and her 9-year-old sister are safe.

“…….There were obviously some issues there with concerns for her and her sister’s wellbeing, and that is the reason we believe Jamie had run away from those circumstances…we have worked now with the Ministry of Children and Families to make sure that they are not exposed to any kind of unhealthy environment.”

Grainger says the case is a reminder for children and teens everywhere that they don’t need to run away, and if there is a problem at home, they can contact an adult they trust, or police.
