The Liberal government has announced the redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.
Health Minister Mike de Jong says it isn’t clear how long the redevelopment will take.
It will be somewhere in the area of about five to seven years.
Hundreds of additional beds, a bigger emergency department and a new surgical suite are among what the redevelopment is expected to include.
“Based on what I have seen, in my time in government, and facilities across British Columbia, we are talking about something that could reach upwards of three quarters of a billion dollars”
In the meantime, the minister has issued a directive to Fraser Health, to make improvements in five areas of care, like decreasing infection rates within 150 days.
