Headstones damaged at Vancouver’s oldest cemetery

Police are looking for some young people after dozens of headstones and memorials were damaged at a cemetery in south Vancouver.

A passerby called in the destruction shortly before 7 a.m. at the city’s oldest cemetery, Mountain View.

Officers arrived to find empty beer cans and bottles littered about the predominantly Jewish and Asian areas of the graveyard, while headstones and other markers were tipped over or broken.

After talking to witnesses, police determined some youth had been partying there between 1:30 and 2 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD.
