High profile B.C. lawyer charged with assault

VANCOUVER – A B.C. lawyer who defended one of the men accused in the Air India terror bombings has been charged in an altercation on a downtown Vancouver street last week.

Sixty-seven-year-old Terry Edward Laliberte is facing two counts of assault in an incident on Nov. 21st.

Police say witnesses reported the driver of a car got out of his vehicle and confronted a women who’d been chasing the car on foot.

Police say two men were assaulted when they came to the aid of the woman.

Law Society of B.C. spokeswoman Robyn Crisanti says the society has opened its own investigation into the incident and Laliberte has resigned his membership in the society’s ethics committee.
