Hospital to get visits from politicians

At least one political figure will be at a Thursday night forum being held to discuss the staffing issues that plague Princeton General Hospital.

BC NDP Health Critic Mike Farnworth says often communities will have solutions identified that are specific to their area, and that’s one of the reasons he’s going, “To identify what the key priorities are in the case of Princeton. But also other rural communities across British Columbia. And I think there needs to the development of a rural health care plan to address issues around staffing.”

The Emergency Room at Princeton General is often closed overnight, and when that happens, getting treatment means a drive of more than an hour.

The Premier and Health Minister have also been invited to the forum.

No word on whether Christy Clark will attend. Mike de Jong will not be there, but the Health Ministry says a senior executive from the Interior Health Authority will be.
