Man charged in downtown hostage incident

Three charges have now been laid in yesterday’s hostage-taking at a downtown Vancouver convenience store.

Koyes Ahmad is facing one count each of unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Police say the 37-year old was armed with a knife when an employee was doused with lighter fluid and held against her will for nearly an hour at the 7-11 at Drake and Granville.

Yesterday, investigators said the victim knew her attacker.

Ahmad remains in custody until a court appearance tomorrow.
