VANCOUVER – The Canadian Coast Guard has rescued a 70-year-old mariner who was stranded for two days on B.C.’s central coast.
Capt. Stu Robertson of B.C.’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says the man spent two nights alone after the engine on his seven-metre boat cut out.
Strong winds pushed his vessel onto the shore northeast of the community of Bella Coola.
Robertson says the coast guard dispatched the vessel Cape Farewell after the man’s family reported him overdue.
He says the Cape Farewell rescued the man Saturday afternoon and took him to hospital in Bella Coola.
Robertson says the man suffered some scratches and bruises.
Bella Coola is about 1,000 kilometres or a 10-hour drive northwest of Vancouver.
