Metro and FVRD still at odds

The war continues to grow between Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley Regional District.

At issue, plans to build a new garbage incineration facility. To put it simply — the FVRD doesn’t want anything to do with it.

Board Chair and Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz says the environmental consequences would be too severe.

To make matters worse, Gaetz says the Fraser Valley is being shut out of the process, “We feel like we’re in a bit of a war. A David and Goliath scenario. But this won’t go away.”

She adds, if Metro chooses to build it out of the airshed, they’ll get out of their hair.

Malcolm Brodie Chairs the Metro Board responsible for the project, “We’re going to have waste-to-energy. We don’t know what type of technology will be used. We don’t know where it’s going to be located at this point.”

And likely won’t for a couple of years.
