Prosecutors will not appeal the acquittal of a former substitute teacher accused of sexually assaulting five girls in Coquitlam.
The Criminal Justice Branch has completed a review of Aleksandr Plehanov’s case and concluded there’s no legal basis to challenge the trial judge’s findings.
David St. Pierre determined he was a bad teacher who behaved inappropriately, but the evidence was not strong enough to convict him of sexually assaulting the girls who were seven and eight years old at the time of the alleged offences between 2008 and 2010.
Plehanov hasn’t been allowed to teach in BC since his licence was suspended by the College of Teachers in 2010.
If he wants to be re-instated, he must apply to the new Teacher Regulation Branch.
