Missing women: who knew what, when?

Why did police stop investigating Robert Pickton in 1999?

That question was put to Vancouver Police Detective Lori Shenher during her third day of testimony at the Missing Women inquiry.

Under cross-examination by Cameron Ward, the lawyer for the families of 25 victims, Shenher says she knew VPD and RCMP investigators would have some explaining to do when a search of Pickton’s farm turned up DNA from numerous victims in 2002.

It all comes down to who knew what, and when.

The VPD’s primary investigator on the missing women case has already confirmed she considered Pickton a ‘strong person of interest’ in the summer of 1998.

Shenher transferred out of the missing person’s unit in early 2000 and later wrote a book about the case,  which has never been published.
