Nanaimo RCMP say the mother of a two day old baby is recovering after being assaulted in the Nanaimo Hospital maternity ward.
Police say the 27 year old woman was holding the newborn baby early Saturday morning when the child’s father punched her in the head.
The mother was able to push the drunken father out of the room and call for help.
He was arrested a few hours later in downtown Nanaimo.
The baby was not hurt.
The 30 year old Tofino man is now facing charges of assault and breach of probation.
