Mulcair visits Vancouver

Federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair doesn’t seem worried about competition from the Liberal Party in the next election… even if he’s up against the son of one of Canada’s most popular Prime Ministers.
Mulcair’s party made history in the last election when New Democrats became the Official Opposition, but can they hold on if the Liberals choose fellow Quebec MP Justin Trudeau as their next leader?

Mulcair: “I’ll let the Liberals sort themselves out.”

CKNW: “But are you concerned that his charm and charisma may erode your support?”

Mulcair: “We are doing very well across Canada right now. It’s the result of a lot of hard work. Hard work on the issues connecting with Canadians on substantive issues and not being afraid to talk about them, but I’ll let other parties sort themselves out.”

Trudeau’s father was Canada’s ‘just watch me’ Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau who died in 2000.
Mulcair has been quick to capitalize on Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s decision to declare Calgary Canada’s ‘greatest’ city.

“I’m going to work with all Canadian cities because on issues like housing, transit, urban poor, the NDP has been working on them for years. We’ve got great policies on that and that’s what we’re going to be offering Canadians in the next election. I know it sounds maudlin, but really, you have to be able to appreciate the whole country.”

Harper singled Calgary out during a visit to this year’s 100th anniversary stampede.
