NDP blames Liberals after child-luring case tossed

The NDP says government policies forced a New Westminster judge to issue a stay of proceedings in a case of alleged child luring last month.

Opposition leader Adrian Dix quoted from a ruling by judge Daniel Steinberg, who tossed out charges after the case had dragged on for 27 months before going to trial.

“……there’s only one word to describe the current state of the provincial court of British Columbia’s ability to handle its caseload:abysmal.”

But Premier Christy Clark says the government has poured more resources into the court system and an ongoing review by lawyer Geoffrey Cowper will try to find out why there have been so many recent stays.
