Parents in New Westminster were asked at a public consultation meeting about how they think School District 40 can overcome a $ 2.8 million deficit.
Kal Randhawa says with only minimal information provided, the so-called budget workshop was an exercise in futility.
She says, “I don’t see how feedback from us, with the amount of complexity of the questions they were asking is really going to do any good. We weren’t given the proper information, we couldn’t make informed decisions or answer the questions in an informed way. I don’t understand.”
Randhawa says the questions posed to parents in the workshop would only be reasonably answered by someone with a financial background.
Last month the New West School Board learned that what it thought had been a balanced budget was actually in deficit of $ 2.8 million.
