No avalanche on Grouse Grind

No one was hurt in an incident on the Grouse Grind at around 10:30 this morning, originally believed to be an avalanche.

Ken Juvik with Metro Vancouver says it was actually a tree that fell down across the trail, not an avalanche.

He says even as rescue crews were at the bottom of the mountain, people were walking passed the gate, to head up the closed trail.

“going out of bounds, yes, I think it becomes a broader social issue, how to manage these people that clearly can’t abide by the rules and endanger other people at the same time.”

Juvik couldn’t say the cost of the operation but did say because a helicopter was used, it’s estimated to be in the thousands.
