Vancouver Police have a new 30 million-dollar forensic storage facility they hope will result in more offenders identified and more convictions.
Everything from bloodied shoes, to weapons involved in crimes and even vehicles associated with homicides: 400-thousand pieces of evidence in all, are now stored at the 87-thousand square foot facility in east Vancouver and will remain there for the next 99 years.
Police Chief Jim Chu says the science behind the investigations is so much more important now and it has to be secured.
The evidence from the Stanley Cup riot is also stored at the new facility.
It took 28 days to move all the exhibits from the old, cramped quarters at 312 Main Street.
