Premier applauds no-hit hockey

Premier Christy Clark is applauding the courage of the parents who voted to ban body checking for house league players between five and 19 years of age.

Clark says it was a brave move,  noting when it comes to hockey, change is a hard choice to make.

Clark says it’s our national game, and we hold it really close to our hearts.

But she says the kids need to be safe, and we want them to put skill, speed and finesse ahead of some of the rougher elements that have traditionally been part of the game.

Clark says she speaks at a parent who has a son in the league involved and when she heard the news,  it was with a sense of relief.

She says concussions are a horrible thing to deal with especially for young players.
