Prince Rupert rally protests Northern Gateway pipeline

Almost 2,000 people have taken to the streets of Prince Rupert to protest the proposed Northern Gateway oil pipeline.

City councillor Jennifer Rice says residents and members of the Hartley Bay band are worried about possible oil spills.

“Say no to having oil tankers here, super oil tankers in the north coast, because this doesn’t mesh with our economy or doesn’t mesh with our values here.”

The proposed $ 5.5-billion pipeline would transport oil from the Edmonton area to a port in Kitimat, where it would be shipped to Asian markets.
