It may be fall, but higher than normal temperatures mean the fire danger rating remains high for much of the province.
Provincial Fire Information Officer Michaela Swan says even though it’s not unheard of to have a fire season extend this late into the year, the province isn’t taking any chances.
“We actually have extra air tankers online, as well we’ve extended our fire crews past our regular contract so we have additional resources to respond to any new fire starts.”
Provincial fire crews responded to a 30-hectare fire near Okanagan Falls Sunday. That fire was not threatening any structures.
Fire crews will be on-scene Monday to put out any lingering spot fires.
