Riot investigation tops two million dollars

While the team that finished second in last year’s Stanley Cup play-offs faces elimination tonight in Los Angeles, Vancouver police have now tallied up how much they’ve spent investigating last year’s riot.

The running tally has topped at least two million dollars, but Inspector Les Yeo -who heads up the riot investigation team- says half of that money has already been recovered.

“……..one million dollars we’ve received back from the provincial government and in addition to that, we have a half-a-million dollar legacy being the forensic video lab.”

Updated numbers presented to the Vancouver Police Board show at least 85 per cent of the people facing charges are not from Vancouver,  prompting both Mayor Gregor Robertson and Chief Jim Chu to suggest the need for a regional police force.
