The search has once again been called off for night in Johnson’s Landing, as crews search for four missing people, unaccounted for a after a massive landslide.
After a series of smaller landslides made the site too dangerous to continue Friday morning, the search is now back on.
Bill Macpherson with the Central Kootenay Regional District says crews are looking at one of the three homes flattened yesterday.
“It’s still quite unstable, but the geotechnical and landslide experts said with observers, spotters up above where a lot of that activity was, we’ll sort of take a calculated risk and have crews in there.”
He adds officials are still treating it like a rescue effort.
No firm answer yet on the cause, though Macpherson speculates it could have been to heavy rainfall.
The search could get called off again later – with weather watchers calling for a thunderstorm.
