Security heightened after arson fires in park

After a string of arsons in Stanley Park in recent months,  one of the businesses in the park says it’s stepping up security.

James Cronk is the producer of Theatre Under the Stars, which operates Malkin Bowl. He says, over the summer, all the stakeholders stepped up security after the station of the popular miniature train attraction burned in June.

Cronk says they increased private security at Malkin Bowl at that time, and now, they’re adding more, “You know, it’s like anything, taking, you know, making sure the garbage is secured and taken away. And, you know, there’s not anything that can be easily lit and all the other precautions that you would take when there’s a bunch of people out there doing stuff they shouldn’t be doing, to say the least.”

Fire caused 200-thousand dollars of damage to a change-room facility at Brockton Oval early Wednesday morning.

There was also a fire at Malking Bowl but it didn’t really become serious.
