Senior dies in fire at home

A man in his seventies is dead after a fire in New Westminster Tuesday evening.

New Westminster Fire Chief Tim Armstrong says crews arrived at 6:30 to a house on Alberta Street, “Initial crews made an interior attack to the front of the building. Upon entry, they found one unidentified male collapsed in the entryway of the home. They quickly removed him from the occupancy.”

Despite efforts from paramedics, the man was declared dead at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Armstrong says the fire does not appear suspicious, but investigators will look into it.
