Sheriffs volunteer for extra duty in traffic

Deputy Sheriffs and other BCGEU members will be rallying to support their proposal to expand the role of Sheriffs to save BC taxpayers money.

The idea was rejected at the bargaining table by the Government.

The Union believed it was a way to generate revenue and free-up regular officers for crime fighting.

BCGEU President Darryl Walker: “Continuing to try and show that we’re not happy with the progress of our talks with the BC Government around the collective agreement, that is now 4 months since it actually ended the end of March. So, just trying to raise the profile a little bit about that.”

The rally begins at 12:30 PM on the north side of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
