Sister of killed B.C. man to care for his son

VANCOUVER – The sister of a B.C. man who fought a long custody battle for his young son, only to be killed in a logging accident earlier this week, has won the legal right to take over care for the child.

The guardianship of five-year-old Timber Dimm was called into question after his father Danny met tragedy while clearing trees south of Lillooet.

His mother has been jailed in Minnesota since August after she was accused of abducting the boy and failing to meet the terms of a custody agreement with Dimm.

The father had only resolved the custody issues and gained care of their son, who has autism, two months ago.

A Kamloops judge ruled Wednesday the primary residence of the boy be with Dimm’s sister, Jewel-Ann Juriansz (Jury-anz), and that he not be removed from the province.

Kiran Duhra, the lawyer for Dimm and Juriansz, says the boy’s aunt is a registered nurse who has training in caring for a child with autism and that she intends to be Timber’s caregiver for the foreseeable future.
