Squatters camps set alight in Stanley Park

Three squatter camps in Stanley Park appear to have been deliberately set on fire Thursday morning.

No one was injured in the fires that occurred around 11:30 a.m. at three separate campsites, all located about 150 metres off Stanley Park Drive in the woods north of Second Beach.

“The fire investigator has determined that the fires were in all probability deliberately set,” saidCapt. Gabe Roder.

A propane tank at one of the squatter campsites also exploded. Multiple people saw the smoke and called 911. The fires were also reported by the Harbour Air traffic control tower.

Roder said firefighters arrived on to find tents, tarps and belongings burning and quickly extinguished the fires. There was little damage to the park.
