We may be nearing the end of summer, but B.C.’s wildfire season is far from over.
Coastal fire information officer Marg Drysdale says the season typically ends after a long-term cooling trend, and that’s not in the forecast.
In the coastal fire zone, Drysdale says more fires have actually sparked this year than last.
“Last year, we had 94 fires for the entire season. This year, we actually to date have 175. What’s a little different about this year, however, is that 88 of those are lightning-caused fires, and 87 are human-caused.”
