The Surrey School District is still waiting for a green light to begin building some new schools, months after a government promise.
School Board Chair Laurae McNally says it has been almost 4 months since the Premier announced an influx of funds for new schools in Surrey.
McNally says the problems seem to lie not in the Ministry of Education, but the government staffers who control the purse strings.
“Oh it is a huge concern because we are coming up to 4 months since this big announcement and new children keep moving into Surrey in the meantime and we are getting further and further behind.”
McNally says the district has over 250 portables to deal with a surplus of students as it waits to build new elementary and high schools.
