Surrey mounties asking for witness information after alleged attempted assault

Surrey mounties are asking for help from anyone who may have witnessed an attempted sexual assault early in the morning on Wednesday.

RCMP say it happened in the area of 128th Street and 96th Avenue.

They say a woman in her early 40’s was approached by a man as she was searching for recyclable discarded clothing behind a business about 4:30 that morning.

The man is alleged to have tried to sexually assault her before another pedestrian scared him away.

Police say the woman was shaken but not physically harmed.

The suspect is described as a clean shaven black man, 5’9″ tall with a slender build.

He’s described as having wide-set, big eyes, and was wearing a dark toque and light-coloured pants.

Mounties say to use caution in the area.

If you have any information about the suspect or the alleged attempted assault, contact Constable Christine Ingleston of the Surrey RCMP’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit at (604) 599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
