Surrey RCMP Supt. says communication between Metro Vancouver forces is much improved

While the RCMP’s top brass have yet to comment on whether they’ll support a regional police force, one of Metro Vancouver’s senior mounties says many services have already been integrated.

Surrey RCMP Superintendent Bill Fordy was part of the team which drew a confession from serial killer Robert Pickton more than a decade ago.

He says communication is much better now than it was then.

“What’s important is that we understand the needs of the communities. The police chiefs, we get along at a professional level. I certainly haven’t debated the pro’s and con’s of one force or another force.”

Fordy says a key example of how service has improved is the combined forces special enforcement unit which works closely with the integrated homicide investigation team, as well as Surrey RCMP and Vancouver Police.

Fordy was speaking with CKNW’s Simi Sara.
