Teachers are weighing their options as they look at ways to fight Bill 22.

The President of the BC Teachers’ Federation says all options are still on the table in response to Bill 22.

Susan Lambert is not saying whether she’s willing to break the law by striking, saying she’s not prepared to predict the response of her members, and the teachers will tell her what to do.

She does admit though, the BCTF can’t afford the financial implications of striking, after being asked if it would be worth it…She said “Well, then that’s the question isn’t it, that’s the moral choice that’s facing teachers across the province. Either you stand up to an injust law and take the risk, knowingly take the risk, or you find other ways of resisting that.”

Lambert says it could be Tuesday at midnight or beyond, when we find out what will happen.

When Lambert was asked if teachers are prepared to break the law, she said “I think that what we’re seeing is a law that’s prepared to break us, and so we are deciding what our actions will be, that decision will be made in-committee, by the meeting.”

A pamphlet advocating an illegal strike is reported to have been circulating at the federation’s annual general meeting yesterday.

The union would face fines of over a million dollars a day if an illegal strike were to happen.
