The community garden on the lawn of Vancouver City Hall is expanding

Some say it’s just another ‘green’ photo op for the Mayor while others applaud the move.

NPA Park Board Commissioner John Coupar says the garden, first developed in 2009,  is already under-utilized, “I’m concerned it’s just a green photo op for the Mayor and that seems to be the trend, green photo ops.”

Mike Levenston with the City Farmer Society says more gardening plots are welcome, “Around the city there’s demand pent up, built up demand for community garden spaces. There’s never enough space for people to community garden.”

Half of the gardening plots at 12th and Cambie are used by locals while the others belong to schools and the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House.
