The law that won’t die

Don’t count the Freedom of Information and Privacy Association as being fans of the BC Government bringing back the pre-election gag law, “It is like the zombie apocalypse, it refuses to die.”

Executive Director Vincent Gogolek says reverting to a 40 day ban on third party advertising before an election makes no sense, “It seems a little odd that they would be sending this to the BC Court of Appeal because they will probably tell them, didn’t you hear us the first time.”

Gogolek says unlike other provinces there is no floor for spending, “Everyone is looking at the big guys, the big spenders, nobody looks at the fact that you or me or anybody else, just grass roots people, who want to just let their neighbours know you are concerned.”

He says anyone posting even a handbill linked to a party or candidate faces a steep fine or even jail.
