The Canadian Taxpayers Federation wants to know why transit police refuse to hand over crime statistics under a Freedom of Information request.
The federation’s Jordan Bateman says he was surprised to be told by transit police that the request for stats from the past four years would require too much work and “would be harmful to the ability of transit police to conduct the daily criminal analysis.”
Bateman suspects something else is at play.
“I think that they’re very hesitant to give out any information that may continue to strengthen the case against their continued existence. The average transit police officer deals with less than 10 serious property crime or assault files a year.”
Bateman has filed an appeal.
