The Transportation Minister suggests legislative changes may be coming to deal with the problem of unpaid transit tickets.
Blair Lekstrom says he’s working on the problem and is looking at all options including legislative change, “What I can assure the public is, that it makes very little sense, I think, to anybody to have the ability to issue tickets and no ability to enforce collection. We are going to find a solution to that and I’m going to move as quickly as I can.”
Of the 64-thousand tickets issued last year by Transit Police for, ‘failure to pay’ only 75-hundred were actually paid.
CKNW News broke the story that there’s no penalty if one chooses not to pay the 173-dollar fine.
