Trial lawyers in BC have begun another phase of job action this week withdrawing their services to protest the lack of legal aid funding.
So, for two weeks now, instead of just one in January, dozens of Courthouses around the Province have no duty counsel for adult criminal work.
Ben Doyle with the BC Trial Lawyers Association says the first phase of action helped build greater awareness and support around the state of legal aid, and opened communication with the government, “Well, we have initiated a positive dialogue to start with the AG’s Ministry, the Attorney-General’s Ministry.”
The participating trial lawyers plan to continue the job action until February 14th, as well as for a three weeks in March and all of April.
