Updated: Brendan Shanahan comments on Duncan Keith suspension for Sedin hit

A Blackhawk’s defenceman has been suspended by the NHL after elbowing Daniel Sedin in the head, sidelining him indefinitely.

NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan says the league carefully reviewed the hit before deciding to suspend Duncan Keith for 5 games.

Shanahan said “Regardless of Keith’s assertion that the intent on this play was to impede Sedin’s progress as opposed to a retaliation for an earlier hit Keith’s hit was still reckless, dangerous, and caused injury.”

He says they looked at Keith’s record in the league as well before deciding on how many games he will sit for.

Daniel Sedin may have a concussion but that has yet to be confirmed.
