VPD on ‘relentless’ search for more Stanley Cup rioters

Vancouver police wrapped up their latest poster campaign in an effort to find more alleged Stanley Cup rioters and announced three more people have been charged in the June 15 melee.

The 340 volunteers and 70 officers handed out 70,000 posters from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday in 19 cities across Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island.

The new poster features 100 people police want to identify, including five of the “most wanted” suspects for allegedly attacking Robert Mackay, a Good Samaritan who tried to stop a mob from smashing windows of the Bay store during the riot. Ten of the 15 people suspected in the attack have been identified.

“The crime spree that we saw on June 15 was a very public event,” VPD Chief Jim Chu said. “This is our public way of showing that we are relentless (and) looking for as many rioters as possible … to hold them accountable.”

The Vancouver Police Foundation covered the $ 14,000 printing bill.

Meanwhile, Crown has approved six more charges against three suspected rioters. Police said a total of 117 criminal charges have been laid against 67 suspects so far.
