Waiting on the Cohen Commision before fishing

While commercial fishermen in BC wait to hear when or if they’ll be allowed to drop their nets this summer, everyone has to wait until this fall for the results of the Cohen Commission.

The Public Inquiry examining the 2009 collapse of Fraser River sockeye salmon stocks wrapped up in December with the final report due by the end of June.

Commissioner Bruce Cohen has been granted a three-month extension because he needs more time to sift through all the information he’s gathered since June 2010.

Inquiry staff say hearings lasted twice as long as scheduled, more than 21-hundred exhibits have been entered and transcripts are least 14-thousand pages.

Cohen’s new deadline is September 30th.
