It’s the long weekend, but families in east and south Vancouver won’t have access to water parks.
The City of Vancouver shut off the water three weeks ago in those areas.
Coalition of Progressive Electors Executive Director Sean Antrim says it’s a blow to low-income families.
“There’s a lot of people that can’t afford to go away this long weekend. It’s a very expensive city to live in. Taking away the little bit of infrastructure we have in this city that’s accessible to everybody regardless of income is really important — I think the city should take it a bit more seriously.”
Former COPE Park Board Commissioner Anita Romaniuk says the cost to keep the water running at each park for an extra week would only be a couple of thousand dollars.
