More good news for the family of the border guard shot yesterday at the Peace Arch crossing.
“The most recent update we’ve heard is that she is stable and she’s expected to make a recovery. So our thoughts are certainly with her.”
That’s Jason McMichael with the customs and immigration union, talking about Lori Bowcock in hospital.
Bowcock, who used to be an emergency dispatcher with the Ontario Provincial Plice, was shot in the neck yesterday afternoon at the crossing.
McMichael says a man shot her and then shot himself, in full view of other would-be crossers.
Reports in other media today have suggested otherwise.
The suspect had been trying to get into Canada in a white van with Washington State licence plates.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation team has taken over the case, treating it as an attempted homicide.
The BC Coroner’s office, meanwhile, is working to identify the man.
