It appears Transit Police officers must meet a ticket quota or face possible discipline.
Earlier this month ‘NW News broke the story that Translink doesn’t enforce fare evasion tickets.
An internal memo written to all Transit police officers by then-Acting Chief Andy Hobbs addressed the issue of ticket quotas. He says, “The requirement for members is to write an average of eight violation tickets per day.”
Hobbs goes on to say, “Most members have had no issues meeting that requirement.”
However, he also says if members have not met the quota over a period of time and have not provided reasonable justification for not doing so, then it may be necessary to address the issue through the labour process.”
The memo suggests not issuing the required number of tickets could be considered a ‘performance’ issue.
