Local tennis star steps away from the game

A Local tennis star is stepping away from the sport because she says to stay would be sacrificing too much of her life.

At just 22 years-old, Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino  was recently ranked as 38th in the world.

But she says now is the time to step away from tennis and explore other possibilities.

Marino says while nasty comments on social media were hard to deal with.

“It’s not the reason I’m  stepping back,  neither is the  depression. Those are just two parts of my life that  I would like to bring awareness to and wipe the slate clean in a sense so it’s all out in the open”

Marino says her hopes for her future are simple: to apply to school  and get a job.

She says she’s not saying she’s retiring because she just doesn’t know what the distant future will bring.
